Totally sad state of affairs.

Sunday night, October 6th, a taxi jumped the curb killing a Vietnam veteran helicopter pilot and injured 3 others including a kid on the corner of 3rd Ave and 40th street in Manhattan. Before I rant, here's a link to two articles about it.

Now get this, the cab utterly destroyed a giant flower pot that is BOLTED into the sidewalk before cleanly snapping a tree with a signifigant width in half. The tree snapped about 7 and a half feet from the ground. People on the street said the cab must have been going about 60 miles an hour. What is the speed limit on nyc streets? 30mph? That means he was doing double the speed limit. Last I remember, that alone warrants an arrest.

Moving on. I work in the building that the restaurant is in. The first article states that the cab was swerving to avoid a car that cut him off. Well guess what, THERE WAS NO CAR. i spoke to the security guys that monitor the cameras that caught this, nobody that cut the cab off. If you ask me, heads should roll for this.

This is the 3rd time something like this happened at that very same intersection. In the past 10 years 2 cars have plowed into that restaurant. How many people have to die before the city puts up concrete stumps or guard rails like the ones around grand central station on every sidewalk? Who's getting paid to support the lie that this cab was cut off, causing him to (speed up) and jump the sidewalk? Why would someone support that lie? Possibly in efforts to attract sympathy for cab drivers who need to make 175$ to break even while dealing with the massive amount of traffic in the city that Bloomberg wants to cut down on by TAXES. Anyone else see the connection here?

The cabbies want to go on strike cause they aren't making enough and they don't want GPS installed in the cabs. Screw them. They should put black boxes in every cab that logs speed as well as breathalysers to keep them from starting the car if they've been drinking. Not only that, they should put easy pass like devices in all the lights that can pull a signal from the cab and can find out if the cab ran the red light.

Bloomburg wants to cut down on traffic congestion by taxing drivers in the city with more tolls. Hey Bloomburg: eliminate cabs in the city. Put more buses on the streets with QUALIFIED drivers who get a salary, not degenerate immigrants who are in a rush to generate more income. The city will make money from the exponentially increased bus fares. Then put QUALIFIED CITIZENS making salaries (not fares or wages) in nice limos and charge the shit out of the rich snobby assholes that refuse to take the bus or the subway. Your proposal is just another TAX on commuters and residents.

This is what really bothers me. If a woman can get 11 million because of some words that were said to her, how can this guy get away with killing someone and mentally scarring a child. Makes me want to cause a big ruckus on behalf of the victims. Pull a Sharpton against the cab companies and the city. And since that bitch can get 11 mil over WORDS, I'd demand 100$ million for loss of LIFE.

Side Note: I'm trying to sell my car because the cost of owning it is keeping me from saving money. Had this happened 24 hours later, my car would have been parked right where that cab is in the picture above. Most likely, nobody would have died, and I wouldn't have to worry about paying for my car anymore. What actually killed the man was the tree that the man was standing next to. Speeding Taxi -> Tree -> Man = Fatality. If my car was there: Speeding Taxi -> 3000lbs Car = Taxi most likely stopping, car plowing straight ahead into possibly more cars. A.K.A, minor injuries and no deaths.


Fuck. I could ramble on about why this shit pisses me off... and more shit about this town and society that pisses me off. But who really wants to hear more?
