Weekly Movie Column

As I said before, I watch a lot of movies at work.
Here's this week's picks:

Kontroll - 2004
Independent Hungarian flick by this director named Nimrod Antel. Yes, Nimrod. Don't let the name fool you. This movie was awesome. Damn good soundtrack too, by some dude who calls himself Neo. Yeah, you heard that right too. At any rate, the soundtrack was so good I actually downloaded it. This movie takes place entirely in the Hungarian subways. 4.25 out of 5.

Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society - to be released July 2007
Ghost in the Shell might just be my favorite anime series. This is the 3rd movie which takes place after the Stand Alone Complex: Second Gig television series. I haven't watch the whole thing yet, I decided to re-watch the series before finishing the movie. But I don't need to finish the movie to tell you it fucking rocks. Also, the soundtrack is the shit. Worth buying. 8 billion out of 5.

Johnny Was
- 2005
Starring Samantha Mumba and Vinny Jones (the Juggernaut bitch!). Entertaining. Drugs, violence, explosions, reggae. 3 out of 5.

Running Scared - 2006
The best Paul Walker movie ever. If there is such a thing. I don't like the guy as an actor, but this movie was good. Although, slightly long it kept my attention. It's about a mob guy who gets sucked into a mess after his neighbor's kid stole a gun that was used in a killing. 3 out of 5.

Epic Movie - 2007
FUCKING SUCKS ASS. Don't even bother renting this. Hell don't even bother pirating it. It blows. Waste of time. I didn't laugh once. Negative 8 billion out of 5.

Hot Rides

Ok, I've always wanted a bike. I was bored and came across these two. The first is the Vyrus 985 C3 Swingarm, a naked bike sporting a Ducati engine putting out 150BHP. You can get one for $69,000. Tom Cruise did.

The second one is the new prototype for the Yamaha VMax, rumored to have around 175BHP, with a list of under $15,000. Click here for the official VMax site.

Go Orihime

This blew my mind. The first girl you see is from an anime/manga series called Bleach, which I am obsessed with. The song is called Leva's Polka by Loituma. I think it is Finnish. This video is a compilation of clips that were started from a simple flash of an animated Orihime Inoue from Bleach spinning a leek looped over the Loituma. What really made me laugh is at the end. So, watch it. It is freaking great if you like Star Wars.

Here's a techno remix... =P

DVD Rentals

I work overnights sitting behind a computer. I get my work done pretty quick and end up having most of the night to myself. What do I do with the rest of my time? Watch movies. Here's this week's mentionables.

"Sublime"

I was very surprised with this movie. Not what I was expecting. Simple plot with a great twist. The actors could have been done better but they didn't ruin the movie. Worthy of being called a mind-bender. The guru gives it 3 out of 5.

"Lucky Number Slevin"
I don't know why I didn't see this movie sooner. Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, and Sir Ben Kingsley. Another movie with a neat twist. 3.5 out of 5.

"Shutter"
A Thai horror film a friend of mine recommended. Came out in Thailand in 2004, was only released in the US within the past month. This isn't a gory horror flick. It's a ghost story. "Horror" flicks rarely make me jump in my seat, let alone scare the shit out of me. This didn't scare this shit out of me, but it did startle me. If you see it on the shelf... rent it. Or just put it in your netflix queue. 3.75 out of 5.

"R-Point"
One of Korea's all time highest grossing horror films. Released in 2006. Story about missing soldiers in the Vietnam war. Highly recommended. 3.75 out of 5.

"Sheitan"
French flick. Remember the Nightfox character in Ocean's 12? Well that dude plays the bad guy, you probably won't recognize any other actors. This was an awesomely bad movie. This chick lours these 3 dudes to her house in the country and weirdness ensues. 3.25 out of 5.

That's it for now.

Day Watch

Night Watch, the first movie of this series kicked my ass. If you haven't seen it... go rent it. Then find a theater that's playing the sequel Day Watch. This isn't your average run of the mill vampire flick. When it came out, Night Watch was Russia's highest grossing movie, and made more money over there than The Lord of the Rings. The sequel Day Watch is a must see. Opening day was June 1st, here's the trailer.
